The 2021 Metaplex Community Impact Award Winners

The wait is over, and the winners are here! Thank you to 7,500+ of you that voted for our first annual @Metaplex Community Impact Awards. It is our great joy to highlight and share the incredible projects, perspectives and people in our community after this landmark year. 

As a reminder, the rules were as follows:

Submissions:

Finalists were submitted by the community at large and selected based on their overall impact to the NFT ecosystem and volume of submissions. No Metaplex Team members, projects or efforts were eligible (much to the chagrin of our recently hired Developers).

Community Vote: 

For each category, there were five finalists. The community voted from Thursday December 16th through Monday December 20th, 2021. 

Community Impact Award Winners Receive:  

Besides flexing and bragging rights, Metaplex Community Impact Award winners receive: 

  • An invitation to an awards ceremony and dinner to be scheduled for early 2022, hosted by the Metaplex Team.
  • A rare NFT declaring them a 2021 Metaplex Community Impact Award Winner.
  • A slick trophy declaring them a 2021 Metaplex Community Impact Award Winner.

Best of Metaplex Categories 

For 2021, The Metaplex Team chose the following categories, as they best highlight the diversity of the Metaplex Ecosystem and bright future of NFTs today: Charity, Community, Developer Tools, Gaming, and PFPs. 

We acknowledge that there is so much more to our community than just these segments, and we are sure that in the years to come these categories will expand in ways we can not even expect. ‍

Without further ado, here are the winners of the Metaplex Community Impact Awards:

The Metaplex Community Impact Award in Charity

Projects that have prioritized and impacted the future of Charity in Web3.

Winner: Thugbirdz

Runner ups:

  • Belugies has donated $200k to whale-saving initiatives with plans for activist programming.
  • Change helps NFT projects choose from hundreds of accredited charities and allocate royalties to the charity’s SPL wallet.  
  • Dear Santa NFTs plans to donate 100% of the mint proceeds of Santa letters from 80s and 90s kids to @Kidsave_Intl, a charity for foster children.
  • Pplpleasr raised $127k to preserve free speech through sale of “The Collectoooooor”, a collection of NFT pieces that unlock limited edition animated cityscapes.



The Metaplex Community Impact Award in Community Building

‍Projects that have impacted the future of NFT Communities either with tools or in general enthusiasm.  

Winner: Grape Protocol

Runner ups:

The Metaplex Community Impact Award in Developer Tools 

Projects that were helpful and impactful ecosystem tools for the betterment of all. 

Winner: Candy Machine Mint

Runner ups:

  • Arloader is a helpful Rust command line application and client for uploading files to Arweave.
  • Hashlips enables everyone to create generative art with a focus on comprehensive documentation and video tutorial.
  • NFT Armory is a simple tool to view, mint, and update your Metaplex NFTs on Solana.
  • Skeleton Crew is an engaged community who has open sourced their Airdrop Tools, Treat Toolbox, and PFP Management Tools.

The Metaplex Community Impact Award in Gaming 

Projects that have impacted the future of Gaming

Winner: GenoPets

Runner ups:

  • Aurory is a JRPG game on Solana where players explore a rich and diverse play-to-earn universe.
  • DefiLand is a multi-chain agriculture-simulation game created to gamify DeFi.
  • Nyan Heroes is a play-to-earn game where cat-run robots battle one another all while saving real kitties by partnering with animal charities.
  • Star Atlas is a grand strategy game of space exploration, territorial conquest, political domination, and more using the Solana blockchain.


The Metaplex Community Impact Award in PFPs 

Projects that have impacted the future of PFPs

Winner: Solana Monkey Business

Runner ups:

  • Degenerate Ape Academy might just be the most degen NFT collection ever where holders are enrolled in the prestigious Academy.
  • DeGods are the creators and curators of the most interesting and entertaining HOUSE PARTY of creativity and innovation in NFTs.
  • Pesky Penguins is an entertaining community that’s all about the “noot noot” that’s building NOOTOPIA and burning floor NFTs to get the Penguins to the moon!
  • thugbirdz flies together as one flock with their entertaining community, $240k commitment to wildlife causes, and thugDAO.
