Royalties and the Future of Creator Monetization

In the last few months, we’ve seen a rapid shift in community sentiment on royalties, with major marketplaces fighting to capture trading volumes by allowing sales on their platform that bypass creator royalties. We believe that this creates a structural risk to the NFT economy at-large because it breaks the incentive alignment between creators and buyers.

As the trusted NFT protocol for creators on Solana, we’re optimistic that there are several compelling monetization paths forward for both new and existing collections, including new models of royalty collection. These solutions are not exhaustive. Rather, our goal is to provide clarity on what is technically feasible today (and what is not) and support discussion on what is sustainable for the ecosystem long-term.
